Michelle and Tristan
Michelle and Tristan were here having hair cuts and color during our Rosemary Rising festival on Thursday evening. While "mom" Michelle was having her hair done, Tristan was busy sweeping hair and chatting with the other clients. He was such a delight! We took before and after pictures to show how the subtle color change can make quite a difference with Michelle's hair, and just to capture Tristan and Michelle together.
Lauren's back
Another new look for Lauren. The cut is quite different from her past cuts, but the color is similar, a dark base with blocks of blonde in the front. The goal is to continue to add more blonde as the dark base color grows out. I don't want to compromise Lauren's hair by trying to lighten while there is still tint on the dark hair. So, we will create this look one step at a time. One thing that we are adamant about here at the little salon is maintaining the condition and integrity of the hair while at the same time chemically alter it by using hair color and relaxer or curling solutions.
Crystal
I wish that we would have taken a before and after of Crystal. The change was dramatic, but very natural. Crystal's hair was shoulder length, dark blonde and the texture is very fine. Kristin added a head full of golden blonde highlights, which is where the dramatic change took place. The highlights transformed Crystal's hair color from a mousy blonde to stunning . The cut is very layered with an asymmetrical bang and long wispy sides to soften the front. The back is slightly shorter than the sides and layers were added to give her fine hair more volume.

Amara's The Election Day Cut
This is Amara, who saw our offer of a free Election Day Cut. She came in with her I Voted sticker and she made an appointment for her cut. She was up for anything that I wanted to do (ahhh, love it). She mentioned asymmetrical and that's what we did, short on one side and long on the other. Amara works at the South Florida Museum in Bradenton, which is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the history of the Gulf Coast of Florida. To see all that the museum offers go to www.southfloridamuseum.org.
Jan's New Perm
Jan just had a perm! After I gave Jan her perm, I cut it and diffused it and she was good to go. For hair that is fine and straight, a perm is the best solution. At the little salon, we offer a very gentle perm by Organic Systems. Of course a perm can not be completely organic, but Organic Systems makes one that is as close as you can get. The curls always come out soft and natural looking, but firm enough to last until the hair grows out. The unpleasant oder that a perm once had has also changed to one that is mild and non offensive.

Film Night at the little salon
Film Night was a great success. We had no less than 100 people in our parking lot in the back of the salon. Thank you to everyone that came to support the creative efforts of stylist/film maker, Brian J Boyd. We sent out an invitation via our "Cut of the Month" newsletter. If you did not receive one we are very sorry, either we do not have your e-mail or if we have it, it is incorrect. If you would like to receive the "Cut of the Month", call us, the number is 955.4691 or send an email to renee@thelittlesalon.com.
Put RoseMary Rising on your calendars. It will be December 4th this year, from 5 to 9pm. We look forward to seeing you here for a fun and wonderful kick off to RoseMary's Holiday Season! There will be vendors, food, crafts and all of our shops will be open with specials on hand.
Models from our Training Workshop
These cuts were done by Alia and Kristin. Alia is currently a student of cosmetology in Sarasota, as well as, part time receptionist/assistant here at the little salon. Kristin is a color specialist in the salon and now, after many years of creating beautiful hair color, has the desire to cut hair. I think the bug hit her after seeing all of the wonderful cuts that leave the little salon. It is also very rewarding to create both the cut and color that work together for a client. Once a month we hold a cutting workshop for our staff and other stylists in the area. The workshops are taught by Melvyn Ainger, former creative director of Vidal Sassoon. It will be a few months before both Alia and Kristin go on the floor as cutters, but by then they will both be extremely skilled entry level hair cutters.
Rachel
Rachel is a new client to the little salon. She actually has very curly hair. This cut can be worn either straight or curly. We straightened Rachel's hair in this picture with a dryer and flatiron; it is temporary. The cut is layered to encourage the curl on those day's that Rachel feels like she would like a different look. Lucky girl to have the best of both worlds.
Sarah's Wedding Day
This is Sarah from Seattle. She came all the way to sunny Sarasota to get married on the beach. Her mom, Barbara, lives here, so that was another reason to travel to Sarasota for her wedding day. She was having a 60's style wedding, so the "flower in her hair" was a must. She new just where she wanted it placed and we did it just that way! We aim to please! Small, small world we live in...in talking to Sarah....only two weeks earlier she had been a customer where my daughter works in Seattle and Lauren (my daughter) had waited on her.
Sarah's make up was done by Gabrielle at the little salon.
Amanda
Amanda has gone slightly shorter over the past few years, with a bit more layering. I have also added low lights to her color, along with the blonde. The lowlights are warm with a bit of dark copper to give the overall color depth. Every time that Amanda comes in for her color and cut, about every 6 weeks, her daughter Harriet gets to go to a local salon and also have her hair cut. Next time I have a feeling we will be seeing Harriet for her cut at the little salon. Look for an upcoming photo of mom and daughter together.
Amanda is a member of the Bradentucky Bombers. For more information and a schedule go to www.bradentuckybombers.com.

Carrie's Wedding Day
Carrie came from the North to Sarasota for her wedding. Paul did her updo and I did her make up. The side part, with the way the hair was pulled back, but not straight back, was perfect for the shape of Carrie's face. The updo looked beautiful from every angle, front, side and back. Carrie's make up was done with Trucco. We used a light foundation, bronzer to highlight the cheek, with a light dusting all over the face. The eye shadow color is Dusk, with a darker liner, lips are Chakra Rose with a Sugar and Spice lip gloss.
Carrie was a stunning bride!!

CURLY HAIR A New Client and Mom To Be
This was Mindy's first visit to the salon. Today she was with Kristin for color and with me for a cut. Kristin put a bronze highlight throughout Mindy's hair. Kristin has the know how and patience to apply highlights to hair that has multiple colors on the shaft from the root to the end. The highlights came out a beautiful caramel color. For the cut, Mindy likes to keep her hair long so she can pull it up in the summer heat, not to mention how stunning she looks when the long curls are falling around her face.
BLONDE Andrea
Andrea has been a client for a few years now. We have gone through a variety of colors and cuts. Today we colored her hair. The medium brown outgrowth was really showing through the blonde ends. The look was interesting, but needed to be refined a bit so it didn't just look like a young woman badly in need of a touch up. I chose her base color for the lowlights and high lift lightener for the highlights. I foiled the entire head with mostly lowlights, adding a few highlights mostly in the front. Believe it not this head is full of level 5 lowlights, that is what gives the blonde the depth and richness. We finished it off with a Butter Creme gloss. Andrea is a make up artist with Estee Lauder in St. Pete. I have to thank Andrea for the gazillion clients she has sent to me over the years. A day doesn't go by that she isn't asked, "Who does your hair?" Thanks Andrea!!
Miranda
This is the first stage of Miranda's new look. I cut it today and next week, I have to say this very quietly......Miranda will get a Perm.....or should I say we will texturize her hair. Perm is no longer an acceptable word. She has an affinity for the 70's, the clothes, the hair, the music, everything 70's. So now we are working on a 70's hair style. Miranda is an artist, model, Dr. to the coffee junkies at the Olive Oil Company and her latest is "tambourine girl" in a band. Look for Miranda's new look next week. Actually, I really like this cut on her as it is.

Two Mom's One Already and One Soon-to-Be
First is Stacey, our already Mom. Stacey came to the salon today with something new in mind. Brian gave her the best of both worlds, a smooth well shaped neckline for the straighter part of her hair on the neckline and the remainder was left to curl as it likes to do. Beautiful cut and the freedom of a "wash and go" cut.
SHORT AND EDGY Soon-to-Be Mom
Next is Carrie, our soon- to- be Mom. Carrie was also ready for a change, something that would be easy to care for but have distinct lines. I cut Carries hair very close for easy maintenance, but left length on the sides and nape. Unfortunately my camera ran out of battery before I could snap a picture of the back, which was very interesting. The left side of the bang was left long, which we will continue to grow for a more dramatic look later on.

A new and very special product
This is a very special shampoo in that is made of all natural ingredients and best of all it is produced right here in Sarasota. The base is coconut oil and it is free of sulfates and parabens. We are using it at our back bar plus being available on our retail shelf. The shampoo has a very creamy consistency and a very mild citrus/ mint fragrance ( which we requested ). The bottles can be refilled in the salon for a reduced price. Look for the addition of a conditioning rinse and body lotions. We would like to hear from you as to the types of fragrances that you would be interested in. Just add a comment and let us know.

What's new at the little salon
Over the summer months we have added a few new products and services. The first is a make up bar stocked with Trucco by Sebastian. The Trucco is available for clients to use after hair services to freshen up at no charge, in addition to being available for purchase.
Gabi is adding a little drama to Lauren's eyes. The Trucco line has a nice spectrum of eye colors, from natural looks to more dramatic.

Rapscallion
We are calling this the Rapscallion. Check out the word on Wikipedia and you will see why. This is not for everyone but on some people, in some environments it works. There is a section from mid crown that runs to the back of the head that has been put into dreadlocks. The remainder of the hair has been cut into a "somewhat"precise asymmetrical shape, with patches of platinum throughout the dreaded area and fringe. The base color is a dark mahogany. As you can see, we are very diverse at the little salon.

VERY VERY BLONDE Laura
Laura's favorite way to wear her hair is with just a bit of dark showing at the root. I like it when the tips are white. Her hair goes through a few looks between coloring visits. Kristin has been coloring Laura's hair, or I should say decoloring her hair and I have been cutting it. We are working on a slightly different shape, a more tapered neckline and a bit longer in the crown area. This look is very unique and Laura wears it very well! Laura is a personal trainer at Balance here in the Rosemary District. Balance is on the corner of 5th and Lemon.
Mark
Mark is home for the summer from college in Alabama. He came into the salon last week with his sister, who was in for a visit with Brian. Mark was pretty much open to let me do what I thought would be best. He did say he would like to leave some length. So, I did leave the back and sides long and cut the layers and fringe area shorter. We finished it off with two of our newest products, the Davines for Wizards line. I combined two paste type products, one for hold and separation (#2) and one for shine and hold (#10).
Wendy
Wendy is a recent Ringling graduate in graphic design. Kristin has been coloring Wendy's beautiful Cherry Red hair and I have been cutting it. The cut is evolving into a more layered Bob. The heavy fringe gives Wendy's incredible blue eyes a nice frame. The products we used on Wendy, were from the Davines for Wizards line. The Mattering Mousse, which smells good enough to eat or drink! This mousse is one of the best I've used. It leaves the hair feeling soft and shiny, with just the right amount of hold and volume. We always look forward to Wendy's visits, she is very appreciative of our work. She is really a delight to have in the salon!
Alia
Alia's posting is far too long in coming. She has been our receptionist (and so much more) for quite a while now. When you call the little salon on Thursday or Friday, Alia is the person you will talk to. And.....very soon she will be here on Tuesday also!!! Alia has been with the costume department at the Asolo Theater for a few years. While she is off for the summer, we have been fortunate to have her with us in the salon. We are hoping that she will eventually become a permanent feature here at the little salon.

Carol
This is Carol before and after. Carol was recommended by Graziella, one of Brian's regular clients. We don't always have the time to take a before and after shot, but today it worked. We wanted to show what a difference a good hair cut can make. Carol has very nice hair, great color, but it had no shape. Brian gave Carol a beautiful layered cut which framed her face nicely.
