London Scene
On Monday Brian, Alia and I went to Miami for a cutting workshop with Melvyn Ainger. Melvyn is our creative director, formerly with Vidal Sassoon UK and Miami. He now has his own digs in Bal Harbour. The name of the salon is London Scene. In the photo Melvyn and Brian are discussing some of the finer points of the cut about to be executed. Melvyn takes clients here at the little salon the last Friday and Saturday of each month. There are no words for the perfection in Melvyn's work and the precision he insists on with each training cut.
Ruth's new look
Ruth's hair is growing and we changed the color slightly, actually we added color to the same base. We added Violetto Rosso highlights, a lift and deposit color by Alfaparf, and Italian color line. It's great for adding accent color to already tinted hair. Ruth's hair is curly in the back and on the sides and straight in the front, which does present a styling challenge. Although for Ruth, she can wear it straight or curly. She has the best of both worlds!

Tamara
Tamara came to the salon with longer than shoulder length dark brown hair. What a wonderful change. She found us via the internet by doing a search for "salons in sarasota". That took her to our website and then to our blog. We were elated to know that our blog is working! In the close up you can see the various shades that Kristin added to the beautiful shade of red that she created for Tamara. The cut was done by Paul. The shape and length are perfect for her hair type and the shape of her face. The whole new look is stunning!
Stevie
Stevie is one of the many Ringling students that come to Brian for an edgy cut. We were pleased to see the picture that Stevie brought in to show Brian. The lines are the opposite to the shorter back and longer front that we get alot of requests for right now. This is a nice departure from the trend. The lines are similar to the "Halo" that Sassoon made popular in the 70's. Brian took the basic concept of the Sassoon cut and put his updated spin on it. It really looks terrific on Stevie!
Annette
Annette was ready for a new look. When she came into the salon her was past her shoulders. Although Annette has pretty hair, she needed a "style". The cut is beveled at the nape and a bit longer in the front. Since Annette is a busy realtor in Sarasota, she needed something that is easy and will look professional, as well as, up to date. This cut is easy to care for and a good length for the shape of Annette's face. Kristin added a few highlights to brighten the color. Both color and cut gave Annette a fresh new look!

Lovely color by Paul
This is the result of a Gloss. A Gloss is a hair color that thinks it's a conditioner, or the other way around, as the advertising states. Anyway, a Gloss is a good thing to do for your hair, whether you choose a color or clear. It gives the hair shine and seals the cuticle to create a silky feel. It's not permanent, so if you do choose a color it will fade and wash away within a few weeks and then you can try another color!
Another precision shot
Carrie
Carrie has another new cut. If we had pictures of all of Carrie's hair cuts it would take up a few blog pages. This is growing out from the asymmetrical "Beret". Although there was something in between, which was a longer crown that fell over a very short bang. Now we are working on something new. We don't have a specific style in mind, which makes it more fun and creative each time Carrie comes in. Carrie may go for something very easy to maintain for the next few months. She's going to be a new Mom!
HONEY BLONDE Agatha
Agatha is a very busy lady. She needed something in the way of both cut and color that was low maintenance, but yet contemporary. This picture was taken on her second visit. Kristin has been coloring Agatha's hair and I did the cut. Kristin has softened the tone of Agatha's color and added a few highlights for brightness. We are working on perfecting her cut. There are still a few areas that are growing in from the cut she had before coming to the little salon. Agatha was recommended to us by her daughter Amy. We have quite a few mother/daughter clients. We even has a few mother/son clients!

Being a Good Neighbor
On Sunday March 30th, the staff at the little salon invited 6 women from the FAITH program in the Rosemary District to have their hair colored and cut. The FAITH program is sponsored by the Salvation Army. It is for families, mostly single mothers, to help with housing and to assist them in becoming financially self sufficient. We started at 9am with coffee, juice and baked goods from Panera. By 10am we were in full swing with all chairs full. By about 12 noon we had more than a full house, I was even putting highlights in Alisa's hair while she sat on a stool at the color bar. Some of the women brought their children, which added to the "bursting at the seams little salon". We all had a great morning. There were many "transformations", from basic brown's to beautifully highlighted hair, cuts that had a better shape and over all much healthier looking hair. Here a few pictures of the staff and FAITH women.
